On November 8, YCSD participated in the First-Generation College Celebration, a national day commemorating the signing of the Higher Education Act (“HEA”) of 1965 by then-President Lyndon B. Johnson. This act created federal financial aid programs to fund students’ educations and made key investments in colleges and universities.
Staff, regardless of whether they were the first in their family to graduate from college, wore college apparel to help spark the conversation about college aspirations with our scholars. YCSD is thankful to be home to college access scholarships and programs such as Y-STAR and the OSU Young Scholars Program, which both fund eligible district graduates with full tuition and more for YSU and OSU, respectively.
