Youngstown City School District (YCSD) is pleased to announce a partnership with Youngstown State University, The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, and the NAACP Youngstown to showcase the 2023 documentary Right to Read.
Directed by Jenny Mackenzie and executive produced by LeVar Burton, the documentary highlights the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read.
āWe are thrilled to partner with local organizations to bring this powerful documentary to our community,ā said YCSD superintendent Jeremy Batchelor. We believe literacy is fundamental to unlocking lifelong skills and offering endless opportunities. YCSD is committed to supporting initiatives that promote literacy and lifelong learning.ā
The screenings are free and open to the public in various locations throughout Youngstown and will follow with panel discussions. The district is also proud to partner with United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley for giveaways and Sight for All United and Vision to Learn, which will offer free vision screenings at select viewings.
